May 2018; lost a piston in this workhorse in Pennsylvania. The customer we were hauling a wrecked truck for back home from Alabama sent their own lowbed, a spare tractor and a couple of tired drivers that worked all day down to rescue me and we got it back home the following morning, then proceeded to yank 2 engines and begin the project of swapping the original 40 year old caterpillar 3406A PCTA to a newer 3406B. Other upgrades include a recored radiator, and many other little improvements while waiting for parts and pieces. Took a solid month to get her back together.
The cabover is our 1981 Freightliner 96" cab that we use occasionally for emergencies, but primarily for antique truck shows and events put on by the antique truck clubs around New England. It's a sweet running 3406A Caterpillar, a 15 speed double over on 44K lb. Rockwells with Airliner suspension. It's just plain fun having this one around...
